The Best KDrama OSTs

Image
*In my opinion*                                       Official Sound Tracks (OSTs) are a huge part of Kdramas. OSTs are part of what makes Kdramas different from other forms of television. Because a limited group of songs are used frequently throughout the drama, the songs have to be placed carefully. This can make the drama great, or somewhat obnoxious (*cough* Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food *cough*). And it can be difficult to become accustomed to for first time drama watchers. Here is a list of what I consider to be the best OSTs. Please bear in mind that I haven't seen every single drama in existence and I picked OSTs that have stuck with me, even years after I've watched a drama. Goblin How could I not include Goblin? This drama has one of the most iconic OSTs. It was epic tragic and beautiful. There were so many songs that I loved and listened to over and over again. "Hush" b...

The Drama Bucket

Image
I like to think of my drama watching habits as a bucket being placed under a leaking roof. There are new dramas coming out every week that I want to catch. But at the same time I have a backlog of dramas from months ago I've never finished. I catch the new ones as episodes come out and if I have time I work on the ones that already ended and I never got to. This past week, the roof has been leaking, but the water droplets are stuck between the roof panes (the episodes I want to watch are not being subbed), so I've been going back to deal with the water that has been collecting in the bucket.                        The Best Hit I finished this bad boy recently. I remember when I started this drama back in June, it was one of the most hilarious dramas I'd ever seen. But in the last bunch of episodes, it was pure emotion and...

Groundhog Day

Winter is coming to an end, finally. I always love the arrival of winter; the first snowfall, holidays, and celebration. But it quickly tires and I yearn for the freedom and mobility that comes with warmer weather. I want this winter, in particular, to end soon. Meanwhile, I've reached as far back as dramas from last May and I'm well on my way to being all caught up. While You Were Sleeping Now that I've finished this, I think I can say that it failed my expectations. I really liked it in the beginning. I thought the drama introduced its characters in an interesting way. And I do think the character and relationship development was the show's strongest point. Each of the 3 main leads (Hong Joo, Jae Chan, and Woo Tak) were complete strangers in the beginning, but by the end they were deeply intertwined in each others' lives. A good deal of that, however, was due to the fact that they dream with each other, which I don't think was explained very well....

Busy Bee

My workload has been particularly intense lately. I find nooks and crannies in my schedule to watch dramas, but I don't always have time to write about them. Lately, I started 2 new dramas that I'm excited about and finished about 4, including some that ended a long time ago. Go me! Hwayugi We now know how Sun Mi could potentially kill Oh Gong. I was skeptical and curious about how her emotions for him could turn murderous. But in actuality, she has such a strong pull over him, she has the power to unintentionally physically hurt him. I do think the geumganggo will come off soon. Oh Gong won't eat her. He sincerely loves her now. And I don't really understand why he loves her because I find her character to have grown quite uninteresting and sobering as the series as gone on. But he does love her. She does have feelings for him. And the geumganggo is putting his life in danger. Adding to the danger Sun Mi could possibly induce, there are several supernatura...

Waiting for Subs

Image
Maybe it's because episodes are, on average, longer than necessary, but it feels like episodes are taking much longer to be subbed. I have nothing but respect for subbers, I just also have no patience. There are many dramas I'm hooked on these days, which I couldn't say often last year.  Nothing to Lose Finished! I can't pretend that I'm not disappointed in how this drama panned out. I was so excited by Park Eun Bin and Eun Woo Jin's casting. I think the key point where the drama fell flat for me was Park Eun Bin's character Lee Jung Joo. I was imagining a fiery judge with a vengeance. Jung Joo was crazy in many ways in the beginning, but she was also very clumsy. She was called the "knuckle headed" judge. And as the show progressed, she grew sober, which made her character meek. On top of my dislike of her character, the romance was also highly disappointing. There were all these subtle, little interactions between Jung Joo and Eui Hy...

It's a New Year

Image
It's a new year and I think everyone is hoping this one will be better than the last. Even last year's dramas were lacking. If anything, I think this will be a year of reflection and acceptance, which may not necessarily bring wonders at this moment, but will make everything that much more meaningful for years to come. I'm Not a Robot I find it hilarious that Min Gyu thought Aji 3 had "deep learned" to fall in love with him. When you think about it, Ji Ah did "deep learn" affection for Min Gyu. In a way, all of our emotions and thoughts are processed by our bodies, which makes Ji Ah no different from Aji 3. It's a really strange concept. I also thought it was hilarious when Ji Ah defending Min Gyu in  her polka dotted disguise. She did all of that, but her brother and ex knew it was her anyways. And then it was heartbreaking when he wished she could be human. I can only imagine how heartbreaking the next handful of episodes will be when he...
